As the name suggests, this was originally a Public Hall, built in 1862. It has a Classical ‘temple' style facade with a Doric portico.
In the early 1930's it was converted into a cinema and an Art Moderne style bay was erected on each side of the front of the building. The interior was also given a modern make-over and seating was provided in stalls and circle levels.
The Public Hall Cinema closed around 1973 and then has operated as an independent bingo club, lastly the County Bingo Club which closed in 2009. The building is now in use as a furniture store.
On 29th March 1996, Historic Scotland designated the Public Hall Cinema a Grade B Listed building.

De Luxe Bingo Background And History
The De Luxe on Bank Street was one of Lochgelly's two cinemas, the other being the Opera House/Cinema on Main Street. After the cinema's closure it became the Enterprise Social Club which had bingo as one of it's main activities.
The club's closure circa 1992 left Lochgelly without Bingo, and the venue's transformation into a snooker hall, 'The Masters Centre', didn't last long either, and the hall closed ion the late 1990s.
We are not sure why the cinema or the bingo hall closed, but to our knowledge the premises currently serve as a builder's merchants.
